Matchday 28 – Real Sociedad v Levante – Match Preview

Sunday 6th March 2016

I am in San Sebastián today to watch this match which I expect to be a victory for Real Sociedad.  The weather here is appalling, with heavy rain all weekend.  I anticipate this will have a negative impact on the attendance.

After their poor performance on Tuesday night away at Atletico, suffering a 3-0 defeat, Real will be hoping for 3 points against bottom club Levante.  The visitors were beaten at home 1-3 by Real Madrid on Wednesday and are beginning to look a bit stranded in last position, having only gained 20 points from the 27 matches played so far.

It is fair to say that Levante don’t travel well.  They have lost their last six away matches in the league, and have already been defeated 17 times in the 27 matches played so far.  They have conceded at least 2 goals in 7 of their last 8 league matches, and overall they have won only 5 times this season, scoring 25 goals but conceding a massive 51 times.

Real Sociedad are undefeated in their last 6 matches against Levante in all competitions, and are unbeaten in their last 5 home matches.  The reverse fixture in late October saw Real sweep Levante aside, winning 0-4, with 2 goals from Vela and one a piece from Agirretxe and Illarramendi.  All indicators point towards a home victory today.

Eusebio Sacristan has been named as the Liga BBVA Manager of the Month for February.  He has overseen a change in the side’s fortunes which saw La Reala undefeated during February, collecting 10 points during the month  – with a record of three wins and a draw.

Eusebio has named the following squad for this match:

Rulli, Olazabal, Zaldua, Aritz Elustondo, Mikel, Diego Reyes, Iñigo, De la Bella, Yuri, Héctor, Pardo, Illarra, Granero, Xabi Prieto, Oyarzabal, Vela, Bruma and Jonathas.

The match sees the welcome return of Inigo after his suspension.  I would expect Pardo and Oyarzabal to return to the starting line up.

Bookmakers Bet 365 offer the following odds for this match:

Real Sociedad to win 3/5, Draw 27/10 and Levante to win 11/2.
